Looking forward to be in the Himalayan peaks one of these days?!! But unsure whether you can take the altitude? Why not test yourself at South East Asia’s tallest mountain, the “Mount Kinabalu” Mount Kinabalu truly has a mysterious lure and believed by the local to be mystical place of their ancestor. Standing at an imposing 4095m tall on the Crocker Range of Sabah, East Malaysia, Aki Kinabalu as the local called it, is the most famous mountain and remains as one of the top climbing locations for hikers in this region and around the world. We will start our journey from the capital city of Sabah, Kota Kinabalu, home to the bustling markets, modern boardwalk, beaches and waterfront Kota Kinabalu City Mosque. We will then proceed to the Kinabalu National Park where the gate to the trail of kinabalu started at ~1800masl. View from the trail near Laban Rata Mt Kinabalu is a good entry level to a hiker’s first 4000m, with an added bonus of the promise of a glorious sunrise at the summit. Post the earthquake in 2015, a new trail to the summit “Ranau” has been established offering much safer and picturesque route. The new breath-taking trail is roughly 1km long leading to the main checkpoint of Sayat Sayat hut, joining back at this point to the original summit trail towards the Low’s Peak at 4095m *Climbers attempting Kinabalu do not need to have any previous experience at mountain climbing. However, a good fitness level and willpower is required. *We will provide training via our regular outdoor activities organised locally by our trek leaders, participants are highly recommended to join.
