The Classical Suru Valley to Warwan Valley Trek
The Great Himalayan Traverse between Suru Valley in Ladakh and Warwan Valley in Kishtwar, also known as the Warwan Trek is one of the eight ancient Trans-Himalayan traverses that transcend from Ladakh Himalayas (Suru valley) to Kashmir Himalayas.
This trek is unique and highly adventurous for multiple reasons; for one this is one of the few treks which give trekkers a rare opportunity to get a taste of both the stark beauty of Ladakh and the lush green valleys of Kashmir. The highlight of this trek is a 9km long glacier traverse while crossing the Lonvilad Gali (Pass) as you transcend from higher Himalayas into the lower Himalayas.

Panikhar trek is a high altitude alpine trekking trail of about 95kms. It starts at Sukhnia , reaches the highest point at Bhatkol Pass (4390M), and concludes at Panikhar village of Kargil. The trek is full of extensive mountain walking with some steep climbs and sharp descends. Overall the trekking trip is not considered as difficult but of moderate level, though it can be quite physically demanding for which proper fitness is absolutely necessary. This trekking trip can be done by first-time trekkers, no previous experience in the field is necessary. Warwan valley trek is not only a pleasure for the adventure seekers but it is an ideal expedition for the nature lovers too who finds it a privilege to bask in the undisturbed beauties of nature in a remote yet most beautiful valley of Warwan.

The Itinerary
|
Day 1 : Arrival Srinagar Arrive Srinagar (Alt. 1600m) Pickup from Srinagar airport drive to Houseboat or Hotel at Dal Lake, approx 30 minutes. OVERNIGHT DELUXE HOUSEBOAT with evening boat rides around the lake available on demand |

Day 2: After a hearty breakfast, set out towards Panikhar, located 260 kilometers away. Driving there will take you around seven to eight hours, but it's a scenic trip. Overnight campout or a homestay. |

Day 3: Trek from Panikhar to Sumdo/Deonora This is day one of your hike. After a good breakfast, the trek starts at 7 am from Panikher. You will go a total of 16 km and gain 470m in height. The trail goes upstream along Panikher nala, and it will take you about 6 hours because it gradually gets higher. After 2.5 hours on the trail, we reach our first place to get water to drink. You will slowly climb up to a meadow, which will lead you to a large river basin where two rivers meet. This place is called Sumdo. At Denora, you will sleep in tents. |

Day 4: Denora to Kalapari After an early breakfast, take off your shoes for crossing multiple icy streams. You will cover 3 km in 1 and a half hours. You can consider this as an acclimatization/rest day for the pass climb the next day. Your breath will be taken away by the bright pink flowers that you will see on the slope on your left. You will be inspired by the wide panorama of the Sumdo and Denora basin. Overnight will be spent in tents at the Kalapari meadows. |

Day 5: Kalapari to Kaintal via Lonvilad Gali This is going to be the most challenging day of the Warwan Valley trek. It is imperative to start early. You will cover 11km in 11-13 hours by the time you reach the campsite. This day will be marked by heart stopping views of a glacial lake, The Kalapari Peak and a view of a wide glacier tumbling down the flanks of a mountain into a greyish crevasse. Overnight will be spent in tents at the Kaintal meadows. |

Day 6: Kaintal to Humpet Today, it will take you 6 to 8 hours to go 19 km. On the trail, you will cross several streams before you reach a wide river basin that leads to green, lush meadows. We'll take a short lunch break here near some square-shaped rocks. From Humpet, you can see the green grasslands, the wide Kaintal river, and the Bhakarval villages on the other side of the river. At Humpet, people will sleep in tents. |

Day 7: Humpet to Sukhnai Today’s trek will be a 19 km long descent with an altitude loss of 500m. You will descend quickly from two valleys to the meticulous grasslands of Sukhnai. On the other of the valley you’ll see the trail that leads to Sheshnag and Amarnath. This is the junction at which and the Warwan Valley begins. We’ll take a break at a grassy clearing near the mound of Sukhnai for lunch. Sukhnai is startlingly beautiful.. Overnight will be spent in tents at Sukhnai. |

Day 8 Buffer Day of rest between responsibilities. This day may be utilized for whatever the members of the team need, including delays (if any) or rest. Day 9 Overnight in a luxurious houseboat after a four-and-a-half-hour journey from the Margan Pass, with an optional short hike to the Chor Nag Lakes or the Shilsar Lakes. Day 10 Visit the floating vegetable market first thing in the morning, have breakfast, and then head to the airport. Until then, Kashmir, take care. |
Note that the itinerary can/may be reversed or the trek can be started from either side depending on horses availability, support team decision or trekking condition (etc glacier movements)
