We start our journey proper in Cuzco, one of Peru’s finest cities. Once the capital of the Inca Empire, it is now considered the undisputed archaeological capital of the Americas. Cuzco is the continent’s oldest continuously inhabited city and the gateway to Machu Picchu where people visited from all over the world to admire the remarkable architecture of the Incas and experience the unique culture of the Andean people.
It is listed as one of the top 10 most beautiful cities of America and also an UNESCO World Heritage site. Walking the streets you will see the layers of history. Spanish colonial buildings erected directly atop Inca walls line the square, while the modern tourist nightlife flourishes in their midst.
As this is a high altitude region, you may experience symptoms of AMS hence the reason we will spend two days at this amazing cities to experience it and also to give our body sufficient time to acclimatize.

The highlights of this adventure, *Machu Picchu* is an Incan city surrounded by temples, terraces and water channels, built on a mountaintop. It was built with huge blocks of stone joined to each other without any mortar. Today it has been designated cultural heritage of humanity in recognition of its political, religious and administrative importance during the age of the Incas
The Inca empire built a vast network of roads throughout the Andes, and various treks can be done covering Inca routes in Ecuador, Bolivia, Argentina, and Chile, as well as Peru. The most famous stretch of the trail, however, is the “Royal Road” segment, a path used by Inca royalty and pilgrims making their way to the sacred site of Machu Picchu, "The Inca Trail"
The trail runs from Cusco to Machu Picchu and a perfect option for those who desire to trek the original route of pilgrimage to Machu Picchu. It is known for its beautiful Andean scenery and compelling history. Though by no means easy, it is also the least strenuous compared to other trails such as Vilcababmba and Salktantay.
Hiking Grade: 3/5 (Moderately advanced multi days trekking)
Not advisable for total beginners, good fitness is required

The one very unique characteristic of the trails is that they were built with the llama mind. The trails, particularly in the mountainous region, are steep, stepped and high – landscape characteristics that llama are well adept at traversing. Because of the trails popularity, the Peruvian Government have initiated a number of schemes to reduce the negative impact upon the trail and the ancient city. Only a set number of 500 people would be allowed to trek the route each day, which includes tourists, porters and guides
