Poon Hill Trek One of the most popular and shorter treks in the Annapurna region is called Poonhill Trek. It is a great introduction to trekking because of diffrent land scape, mixed culture and suitable for experts to beginners and varied ages, from young to mature. Along the way, one can enjoy the scenic grandeur of the mountains, the terraced hillsides stepping down to valleys rib bones with flowing streams and cascading waterfalls. The Poon Hill Trek will take one through several villages where you can enjoy experiencing the rich culture of the Gurungs and Magars people. Traveling through the magnificent ancient rhododendron trees with red and pink blossoms will make one believe they are journeying into an enchanted forest. The ultimate thrill will be reaching your destination of Poon Hill, especially at sunrise when one can see the sun come up over the towering peaks of Dhaulagiri (8167m world’s 7th highest mt.) and Annapurna One (8091m 10th highest mt.). The spectacle from Poon Hill is both breathtaking and inspiring.
THE ITINERARY 14/10 Day 1: Arrive in Kathmandu (1330m) 15/10 Day 2: Kathmandu to Pokhara drive 6-7 hrs (850m) 16/10 Day 3: Drive to Nayapul& trek to Tikhedhunga (1540m) 8.5km, 5-6 hrs. 17/10 Day 4: Trek to Ghorepani (2850m) 9.8km, 6-7 hrs. 18/10 Day 5: Hike to Poon Hill (3210m) & trek to Tadapani (2660 m) 11km 6-7 hrs. 19/10 Day 6: Trek to Kimche (1550m), 10.8 km, 5-6 hours & drive to Pokhara. 20/10 Day 7: Free day in Pokhara 21/10 Day 8: Drive Back to Kathmandu. 6 hours drive or 30 min fly. 22/10Day 9: Trip end. Transfer to airport. Starting from Kathmandu, you will fly or drive to Pokhara and enjoy the scenery of the Trisuli River. Upon arriving in Pokhara on the second day, you’ll be able to view the entire Annapurna range, amongst others, while having the opportunity to do some last second shopping. From Pokhara, you will drive about 90 minutes to reach Nayapul, which is the trek starting point. New trails will lead you to local villages as you’re surrounded by rice fields. The last hour of this first day of trekking goes along the old trail and its stone steps. Then you’ll overnight at the local tea house. The next day will take you to Ghorepani, continuing along the stone steps of the old trail. One of the highlights of this day’s trek is traveling through a rhododendron forest between Ulleri and your destination. After another overnight, the trip to Poon Hill begins so that a stunning sunrise on the summit can be seen. You’ll be able to see 10 snow-capped peaks during the sunrise. After this beautiful sight, you’ll trek to Tadapani through dense forests, having the opportunity to spot local wildlife along the way. On the final day of trekking, you’ll experience trails in subtropical forests, find small villages, and be once again surrounded by the rice fields. It’s a relaxing final trek that is followed up with a drive back to Pokhara. The final day is reserved for a return to Kathmandu.
