- Ladakh is a place where time and space are consumed by beauty, where the stars and mountains and rivers sing a timeless song." - Ruth Padel
As you wind your way through the high-altitude roads of Ladakh, you'll pass through mountain passes that tower above 5,000 meters. These include the world-famous Khardung La Pass, which is the highest motorable pass in the world, and the Chang La Pass, which offers stunning views of the surrounding valleys and snow-capped peaks. Along the way, we will visit ancient monasteries, remote villages, and meet friendly locals who will share their stories and culture with us. We will also get to sample delicious Ladakhi cuisine, which is a unique blend of Indian, Tibetan, and Central Asian flavors. The road trip to Ladakh is not for the faint of heart, but it's a journey that will reward you with unforgettable memories and experiences. It's a chance to challenge yourself, step out of your comfort zone, and discover a world that few have had the privilege to see.
The experience of trekking with Tsokar and Tsomoriri in view, is especially thrilling. The area is home to nomadic tribes, or Chagpas, who tend to their herds of goats, yak and sheep with help from their muscular mastiff dogs. It is also a haven for wildlife, including kyang, the Tibetan wild ass. The altitude alone is enough to catch out the unwary. However, the warmth of the welcome from the local people combined with the stunning backdrop of the all-conquering Himalayas make it a challenge many choose to accept.
