25-30 SEPTEMBER 2024
Mount-Fuji Off-Season Climb
Mount Fuji, a sight to behold. A mountain so grand, so bold. A symbol of Japan, so proud and true. A climb to the summit, a feat to achieve. Hiking in Japan is an experience like no other, with a range of trails and mountains to explore. Mount Fuji, in particular, is one of the most popular destinations for hikers and climbers.
The official climbing season is short, and runs from early July to mid-September - so during this time, thousands of people climb the mountain every day via its four main trails. On this extraordinary adventure, we escape the crowds and embark on a Mount Fuji climb like no other. Experience the beauty, tranquility, and thrill to summit Japan's highest peak during the off-season.
What is it like to climb Mount Fuji off the season?
- no more long lines to summit and sharing overcrowded trails with many other hikers
- get a rare chance to immerse yourself in the tranquility of nature, and ample time to absorb the breathtaking views and connect with the mountain on a more personal level
- Most mountain huts on 7th-8th stations are closed outside the official season, so we will be doing a one-day climb
- You should be an experienced hiker and physically & mentally prepared to hike for up to 10-12 hours
- Public transportation to and from trailhead is limited or none but transfers are included here
- there is usually no snow on until Oct-Nov so still safe to climb, but the temperatures at summit can be relatively lower in late September than the summer months. However, this can be optimal weather conditions as weather condition is more stable with a cooler temperature and clearer skies
- We have certified English-speaking professional guides from Japan Mountain Guide Association (JMGA) with us on this trek to ensure safety through the mountain's terrain
- Delve deeper into the Japanese culture by exploring Mount Fuji and Kawaguchiko during a quieter time of the year
- Climbing Mount Fuji off-season not only reduces your ecological footprint but also supports sustainable tourism practices. By minimizing the impact on the fragile ecosystem, you can contribute to the preservation of this natural wonder for generations to come.

- Climbing Mount Fuji is not just about reaching the summit. It is about the journey and the experience along the way.
In this extraordinary adventure, we shall summit two Japanese peaks:
🗻Mount Fuji (3776m)
Distance of Trail: Approx. 8.6m (ascent 4.3km, descent 4.3km)
Approximate Climbing Time: approx. 6 hours ascent, 3 hours descent
Total Elevation Gain: 1476m
We shall start with an acclimatisation day at the 5th station, before starting trek from the Yoshida trail, traversing to the summit before descending via the Subashiri trail. To ensure optimal safety during off-season, this trek will be done in the day and led by certified English-speaking mountain guides.
🗻Mount Akadake in the Yatsugatake Mountain Range (2899m)
Distance of Trail: Approx. 16.5km (2D1N)
Approximate Climbing Time: approx. 3 hours ascent on D1; and 7 hours summit + descent on D2
Total Elevation Gain: 1400m (730m on D1; 670m on D2)
Mount Akadake is the highest peak in the Yatsugatake Mountain Range, which spans across the Nagano and Yamanashi Prefecture. An ancient mythology has it that the Yatsugatake mountain range was once a single peak that was a close rival against Mount Fuji. In a show-down to decide who is higher, Yatsugatake actually triumphed. The enraged Mount Fuji smashed Yatsugatake into pieces and created the eight peaks that remain today. Mt. Akadake is the tallest peak at 2899m, and is one of Japan's Hyakumeizan (a list of 100 mountains in Japan). This is a 2D1N trek with one night's stay in the mountain hut. At the summit, witness a 360-degree panorama of the Japanese Alps, including Mt. Fuji and beyond.
