As we descend towards the lowest spot on the planet we will make a first stop the famous Qumran Caves, the archaeological site where the Dead Sea scrolls, a collection of some 981 different texts, were discovered between 1946 and 1956 in eleven caves. Ascend to the top of Masada, an ancient fortification, located on the eastern edge of the Judaean Desert, overlooking the Dead Sea, built by Herod the Great. Climb to the top of the historical fortress, to tour the magnificent site observing the desert. Walk through the remains of the ancient synagogue and Roman bathhouses. Learn about the tragic story of the last defenders of the stronghold against the Romans, and the mass suicide of 960 people, the Sicarii rebels and their families hiding there. Take a short nature walk through Ein Gedi Oasis - enjoying the fresh water natural waterfalls. You will probably want to relax after all this sightseeing! Hike to the "Sataf" village outside of Jerusalem with it's romantic ancient irrigation system , the place was remade by the JNF to look like a real village again. Hike between two Ancient Jewish cities (3km) in the middle of the Valley - pass ancient water cisterns and wineries. Visit Yad Vasehm. Tour the Holocaust museum.Take time to remember and never to forget, with an emphasis on the younger generation. On the way back, stop at Ein Karem, Village outside Jerusalem where John the baptist lived, very beautiful and artist oriented, hike to this location to the two churches and the spring of Mary. Overnight: Prima Kings, Jerusalem Monday · September 11th Along the Coastline of the Mediterranean Ocean Following a tasty breakfast, we will head north along the coastline of the Mediterranean. We will stop along the way to explore the wonders of Israel's coastlines. Start the day touring the ancient city of Caesarea, built 2000 years ago by King Herod for his benefactor Augustus. Visit the site and its Roman Theater and Hippodrome used for horse races. For lunch, we will make a stop at Haifa to walk down the unique Trail of Stairs between the new and ancient parts of Haifa's history, see the Baha'i Gardens and beautiful German Colony eat a Hummus lunch and talk about the special coexistence in one of largest mixed cities in Israel. Then we will head towards the ancient port city of Acre (Akko). The city occupies an important location, as it sits on the coast of the Mediterranean Sea, traditionally linking the waterways and commercial activity with the Levant. We will walk through the ancient city and explore the remains of the 900 years old crusaders port city including: walking on the walls, the knight's halls, the market and the Templar's secret tunnel. We will head towards the northern borders to visit Rosh Ha'Nikrah grottoes, which are cavernous tunnels formed by sea action on the soft chalk rock. We will walk through the path within the heart of the cliff which exposes visitors to the magnificent naturally formed grottoes. Medium hiking ability needed Visit Tiberias, walk through the city and go out on the pier and take a boat ride on the Sea of Galilee. Our next stop down ancient history lane will be at Capernaum- the ancient village of Jesus. Visit Pke'ein Druz village- visit the Druze village and get a chance to meet with Druz people and taste a delicious meal while discussing their life in Israel. Hike Jilabun Stream- A beautiful hike down a waterfall next to an old Syrian base and an ancient Jewish village from 2000 years ago. 3 miles, medium to hard. Overnight: Leonardo Tiberias Friday · September 15th Petra - Day 1 Welcome to Jordan! After ending all border-formalities towards the "Desert Highway" and then to the "Rose Red City" - Petra. We will go for short tour of Wadi Musa around Petra. Enter the ancient city through the famous "Siq" - a narrow natural gorge that made the secret entrance to Petra. Part of the journey through the “Rose Red” city is by horseback (if you wish) then by foot, through the “Siq,” a winding, canyon road. All at once, the Valley of Petra will open in front of you and you will see the famous "Khazane" ("Treasury"). Visit the most famous monuments, carved in the red sandstone; the small temple, the roman amphitheater and the caves in the rock between dozens of imposing obelisks and monuments. Depart towards border crossing and head into Eilat. Hike Amir Stream, through the unique mountains of Eilat all the way to Almog Nature Reserve and go snorkeling in the Red Sea. Walk the old city of Jaffa learn about the Port's history, explore the new port and board walk and hidden artist galleries. We will take a journey back in time to the beginning of the state of Israel and head towards Neve Tzedek, the first neighborhood in Tel Aviv. A great place to walk and discuss the first Hebrew city. Then we will proceed to visit Israel's Independence Hall, the historic birthplace of the Jewish state on famous Rothschild Blvd. Take the "White city tour" and walk the historical streets to explore Tel-Aviv's colorful vibration at Nachalat Binyamin , Located in one of the oldest neighborhoods in Tel Aviv, Nachalat Binyamin Market features a massive range of different arts and craft products presented by over 200 artists who set up to offer their sometimes fascinating creations to the public. We will walk through the Carmel market & Shenkin st. all the way to the beach and enjoy the sand and water of the famous Mediterranean beaches of Tel Aviv. Tour and Lunch in "Sarona" The refurbished and historic Templar Village with wonderful cafes, parks and playgrounds on a modern historic site. This will be probably your last opportunity to shop for souvenirs for the folks back home. Visit Rabin Sq. where Prime minister Isaac Rabin was assassinated 20 years ago.
