We are pleased to announce the Gunung Raung Expedition 2017 in preparation for the Trek For Hope Nepal 2017 EBC and Island Peak’s team.

Mount Raung is one of the most active volcanoes in Java island, the angriest among all its brothers including the more famous Kawah Ijen. Clearly meant for only the bold and bravest, get yourself ready for goosebumps when you attempt to conquer its peak and hearing it is roar.

Often said to be harder than Rinjani, this 3332 masl gunung provides a great challenge to those who craves it

Please note that this is a very advanced training session. Mt Raung is not touristy for a reason, it has a high degree of difficulty due to prolonged hike from one basecamp to another, loose and steep grounds requiring basic mountaineering skills. 

Round trip summit attack may take up to 15 hours (Camp VI -> summit-> Camp VI). This is on top of tackling a total of nine campsite three days before that ( ~5-8 hours hike daily).

Height phobia is strictly no no for this hike, if you are afraid of going down Rinjani/Agung or Semeru summit without a guide holding your hands, forget about this hike. SAFETY is of its most importance, listen and follow the guide instructions at all time.

10 PM pick up bus ride to Kalibaru, Banyuwangi (10hours ride, sleep otw)
Reached basecamp I of Raung
 
10 Feb
Take ojek (motorbike taxi) to pondok Sunarya
start trekking to camp II, ~5-6 hours
Set campsite, rest

Trekking from Camp II until Camp VI, ~5-6 hours
Briefing and training on basic mountaineering (good if you know some basic beforehand)
Set campsite, rest
 
Feb 12
Summit attack, early morning 04.00AM
Camp VI-> Camp IX, Puncak bendera, set up harness & safety equipment
Rappeling to go to Puncak Tusuk Gigi (false rim peak)
Raung Sejati Summit (True Peak)
Descent back to Camp VI
