TAG ALONG for an expedition to Mt Damavand, one of the Volcanic Seven Summits This 18,506-foot volcano is located in the Alborz mountain range in Iran. Last erupted 7300 years ago, this UNESCO national world heritage site is a home to unique diversity of flora and fauna including Brown Trout, Iris demawendica, Mountain Goats, and the Caspian Snowcock bird. This dormant volcano and the highest peak in Middle East plays a special place in Persian mythology being it’s the magnificent hero in many of Persian folklore and poems. Mount Damavand has four main routes with different climbing grades and characters, the most popular face is the classic South route. As this hike is meant for intermediate hiker with minimal technical skills, we will be going during the beginning of summer where there is more flower blooming and the route is not yet crowded. ITINERARY Day 01- Arrival Day, 30th May Pick up at airport on arrival (main group) Check in into hotel, free and easy Rendezvous with the Alamut team (D) Day 02- Free day- 31st May Say goodbye to the Alamut team Tehran Day tour (*if you extend from Alamut, you would not going for this tour, it will be free and easy day) Overnight stay in hotel. (B/L) Day 03- transfer to Polur- Ascending to camp/hut- 1st June Early morning at 6.00 a.m. Travel from Tehran to Polur with a private vehicle which takes 1.5 hours. We will have breakfast and shift the car with a 4x4 and move to Mosque (Goosfandsara) 2900 m, the start point of trekking (B/L/D) We will start trekking to the camp (Bargah sevom) 4250 m with a light backpack and extra luggage will be carried by mules. Ascending to the camp usually takes about 5 hours. Bargah sevom is a big camp with an equipped hut. We will have overnight stay at the camp/hut. (B, L, D) Day 04: Acclimatization- 2nd June This day is acclimatization day. After breakfast we will ascend to about 4800 m, spending there for an hour and turn back to the camp. Taking rest for a while and getting prepared for summit day. Overnight stay at the camp /hut. (B, L, D) Day 05: Summit day- 3rd June Light breakfast in the early morning and start ascending towards the summit at 5.00 a.m. The trail to summit is not technical though deeper snow might be encountere, going slow and being adapted with the high altitude is the most important factor. Average time for the summit is 7 hours and another 3 hours for descending to the camp. Overnight stay at the camp/hut. (B, L, D) Day 06: Descending and return to Tehran- 4th June After breakfast we will break the camp and start descending to Mosque. Extra luggage will be carried by mules. A 4x4 car will pick up us to Polur. Then we will shift the car. Having lunch in a local restaurant and back to Tehran to your Hotel. (B, L) Day 07: Departure day- 5th June Depending on your flight schedule, you will be transferred to IKA to take your flight. Trail Grading: 4.0 PHYSICALLY DEMANDING, NOT FOR BEGINNER *Requires snow trekking at some sections especially near the summit LAND COST (MAX 15 slots) 1550SGD If you take both Alamut trek + Damavand extension together, Damavand land cost would be discounted at 1300SGD (total cost for both will be 3150SGD).
