The conical Adam’s Peak towers tall at 2,243m. Sitting at the peak of this beautiful mountain is the Sri Pada, the sacred footprint that Buddhist tradition says is the footprint of Buddha. In Hindu tradition, it is that of Shiva or Hanuman. Some Christian and Islamic traditions say that it is the imprint of St. Thomas or that of Adam – which is how the name originated.
Because of the influence that Adam’s Peak has with every major religion, it is one of the holiest sites in the world today.
Pilgrims have walked up this mountain for centuries, choosing a variety of routes based on the experience desired from the journey. It is a journey that requires thousands of steps and several hours of dedication to reach the sacred summit.
