“Stand at the crossroads and look;
Ask for ancient paths,
Ask where the good way is and walk in it,
There you will find rest for your souls.” - Prophet Jeremiah
Christmas Camino 2019
The legend of Ara Sollis tells us of a group of people who desired to find the hiding place of the sun. Where did the great ball of light go at night? Would it be possible to find that location?
What mysteries could be found if such a place existed?
The group became obsessed with the desire to find an answer. They left their lands to continue walking eastbound as they chased the sunset. When they arrived in Galicia, the Atlantic Ocean stopped their journey.
The sun went underwater at Fisterra, and the group marveled at the sight. It was the perfect hiding spot, resting beneath the waves. An altar was then placed in that spot to commemorate the knowledge the group had just obtained.

Also known as the Way of St James, the Camino De Santiago is one of the world’s classic walking trails. It is first and foremost a pilgrimage route and is steeped in history and tradition. During medieval times, the Camino was a major route for pilgrims along with Jerusalem and Rome. Many people walk the route for spiritual reasons, even today. Along with the Kumano (Japan), the Way of St James (Camino de Santiago) are the only two recognised UNESCO World Heritage pilgrimage routes.
There are several starting points for the Camino de Santiago. Traditionally people came from various points in France. These are known as the Camino Frances routes. The Spanish view the Pyrenees as the start of the Camino and today many people begin the journey in Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port on the French side and Jaca and Roncesvalles on the Spanish side of the mountains.
This holiday season, we will walk the reverse Camino to celebrate the start of the new year as we reflect on what we leave behind. It will be a trip filled with the Christmas spirit, with each step we take together being a celebration of friendship, adventure, and hope.
There will be time to explore Braga, Porto, and Madrid, in addition to the opportunity to walk in the footsteps of pilgrims.
We will be chasing the promises offered of the new year. Come join us for this celebration!

We have walked the Way of St. James during the holiday seasons of 2017 and 2018 as a personal pilgrimage. However, what we have learned through our past journeys is that with the fantastic vistas, big skies, and towering spires, this route is one of the world’s best trails to follow at any time of the year.
Whether you come to see the Romanesque art, experience the salty sea air, or come to walk for your personal reflections, the Way of St. James calls one and all to embrace the moments of life each day. This journey will change your life.

Everyone walks the Camino for a purpose
You may walk the Camino because...
you want to enjoy the scenery
you want to make new friends and meet people
you want to self-reflect and spend some time alone
you do it as a pilgrimage, to seek or make peace with God
you have a promise to keep
you have a request to make
you have lost something
... or seeking for something
At the Camino, anything can happen.

I Seek
by Simon chan - CHRISTMAS WALK 2017
|
I seek purpose.
Through a spirit, often wordless. Kind eyes. Perhaps a quiet morning surprise. As wonder fills the soul. There are many roads from which to choose. In some we win. With others, we may lose. I will continue the journey in this season. For my purpose has the greatest reason. To make the world around me a better place. |
|
|
I seek redemption.
Mistakes deserve no exemption. Mindless errors. Perhaps a soul pondering quiet terrors. As a quest for forgiveness fills the soul. For people hurt when mistakes are made. Some may stay. Others may choose to fade. I will continue to make right what was once wrong. Even if that means I’m the only one marching along. Because that is the right thing to do. |
|
|
I seek peace. May the wars in life finally cease. Battles afar. Wars inside that threaten to render the heart. As many seek the same path. For I have found we are stronger together. Alone I am weak. Like a strong breeze pushing a solitary feather. I will continue to offer my hands. To mediate, to find compromise in distant lands. This is what our children deserve. |
|
|
I seek joy.
Like a happy shout when spotting a new toy. A grateful smile. Deep wrinkles on the cheeks proving life is worthwhile. As the sunrise echoes the hope of a new day. I will seek out the good in all I do. Even in tragedy. For every sunset brings hope anew. I will continue on, striving along. For when joy spreads, it says that we all belong. Even if you are a world away from me. |
|
|
I seek love. Not as a method to shove. But as a method to share. Releasing trespasses without nary a dare. As each day pulls me closer to you. The echoing happiness of a deep laugh. Seeing family not seen in ages. Composing new accomplishments on life’s paragraph. I will continue to love first throughout every tomorrow. To make the world around me a better place. |
