Здравствуйте!
Few are the places on Earth that can claim a more diverse amalgam of ethnicities, languages and cultures as the one forming the intricate human puzzle of this little-known mountainous region drawing the border between historically opposing worlds: Europe and Asia, Christianity and Islam, the former Soviet Union and the Middle East. A nameless French traveller once wrote that two are the most colourful things on Earth: the robes of the women in Haiti and the demographic map of the Caucasus.
Immerse yourself in this unique and vibrant offerings of Caucasus, from its ancient churches, and archaeological wonders, to its diverse and dramatic natural highlights, this destination will blow you away with its beauty and unforgettable sights.

It is a one of a kind tour that bring you to the ‘must-go’ tourist attractions such as Tatev Monastery, as well as the less touristy part of Caucasus for example Griz Village, Khinaliq, Nakhchivan (you may not even see any tourist at Alinja Castle) and Svaneti. We recced the region and shortlist travel-worthy destinations to ensure that you experience the most out of your limited annual leave.
This trip is fully tailored made to include visits to the very exclusive Nakhchivan exclave (very seldom offered by mainstream operators).

Azerbaijan
During our trip to the Quba region, we will trek through the remote villages of Khinaliq, Qalakhudat and Griz. Meanwhile, we will get to enjoy the richness of Azerbaijani cuisine.
Khinaliq Village
Khinaliq is Azerbaijan’s highest mountain village, approximately 2,250 metres above sea level. Khinaliq is in a stunning location not far from Shahdag, Azerbaijan’s highest peak, in the southeast ridge of the Caucasus mountains. It has an ethnically distinct population with their own unique language, habits and culture. Known as an historical-architectural and ethnographic reserve, it is often called the open-air museum of Azerbaijan.
Griz Village
The Griz villages retain an off-the world sense of isolation, with a simple, agricultural, way of life. Although the Griz are spread throughout various villages in Quba and Khachmaz, their headquarters is still the mountain-plateau village of Griz, a truly unique place, difficult to reach! Getting there is challenging and an adrenaline-filled adventure. The village still retain it's pristine architecture here where barriers are made of dried dung. Its inhabitants survive on agriculture and cattle raising, so you will see flocks of sheeps and roaming cows all around. Griz also boasts a peaceful rural charm, making for an authentic off-the-beaten-path experience. It is one of the less touristy spots where you will most likely not see any tourist around, no hotel, no flush toilet, no proper paved roads... But definitely worth a visit.
Sitting at an elevation of 2,200 meters in the foothills of Ag dagh Mountain and on the banks of the Gudyalchay River, Griz is home to plenty of incredible mountain scenery and great hiking opportunities. There are several springs as well as a stunning natural waterfall and cave near the village. The waterfall, which sits at the top of Ag dagh, has made the village quite a popular spot for hiking, in fact. We will explore Griz village and hike through some rugged and moderately challenging mountain terrain until we reach the waterfall. We will take you up a stony trail, towards the land of the Griz people, one of the many ethnic groups in the Quba district, in northeastern Azerbaijan, with their roots in Caucasian Albania.
Baku
Notice that we spare a free day at Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan which combines a medieval old town with 19th-century European palaces and today’s ultramodern skyline. Participants get to explore the UNESCO-listed fortified old town (Icheri Sheher) by foot, do some souvenir shopping and visit various attractions at their own pace such as the Maiden’s Tower, Palace of the Shirvan Shahs and Fountain Square.

Nakhchivan
A fascinating tour to this little known territory of Azerbaijan, the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, an enigmatic exclave that most of the Singaporeans would not have heard of may tickle your interest.
Alinja Castle aka Fortress of Alinja
Climb up to the fortress of Alinja, an imposing defensive construction dating back to the XII century strikingly resembling the legendary Incan town of Machu Picchu (or at least an Azerbaijani version of it).
Ashabi-Kahf
Ashabi-Kahf is a sanctuary in a natural cave which is located in the eastern part of the city of Nakhchivan, between the mountains of Ilandag and Nahajir in Azerbaijan. Since ancient times Ashabi-Kahf is considered as a sacred place. It is known not only in Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, but also in other regions of Azerbaijan and countries of the Middle East. Each year tens of thousands of people make a pilgrimage to this place. The meaning of Ashabi-Kahf in Arabic is “the cave possessers”. Ashabi-Kahf was mentioned in 18th surah of the holy Qur'an “Al-Kahf”. The surah is a parable about a group of young believers who had stood against those who trusted in others, besides God and hid themselves inside a cave in order to escape a persecution. The Qur'an says that number of young believers and the length of their stay is known only to God. It also emphasized that it is not the important part of the story, but rather the lessons learned from it. The event described in holy Qur'an can also be seen in legends about Ashabi-Kahf in. The restoration and construction works in "Ashabi-Kahf" was carried in 1998 in accordance with the instructions of Heydar Aliyev, National Leader of the Republic of Azerbaijan. A mosque was built, road was laid and everything was performed for the good and proper conditions of pilgrims.

Armenia
Admire the breathtaking scenes of ancient monasteries that standstill even after so many centuries, visit the old wine town of Armenia to try variety of wines made of pomegranate, apricot and berries, take pictures of Biblical Mount Ararat when visiting Khor Virap Monastery as nowhere else the mount has such a magnificent view.
Tatev Monastery
The Tatev Monastery is a 9th-century Armenian Apostolic monastery located on a large basalt plateau near the Tatev village in Syunik Province in southeastern Armenia. The term "Tatev" usually refers to the monastery. The monastic ensemble stands on the edge of a deep gorge of the Vorotan River. Tatev is known as the bishopric seat of Syunik and played a significant role in the history of the region as a center of economic, political, spiritual and cultural activity.
The monastery is also known as the "best-known site" in Syunik. Wings of Tatev, a cableway from Tatev to Halidzor village was opened in October 2010. It was included in the Guinness World Records as world's "longest non-stop double track cable car." – You gonna experience this when you are there.
Khor Virap
The Khor Virap (meaning "deep dungeon") is an Armenian monastery located in the Ararat plain in Armenia, near the closed border with Turkey, about 8 kilometres south of Artashat, Ararat Province, within the territory of ancient Artaxata. The monastery was host to a theological seminary and was the residence of Armenian Catholicos. Khor Virap's notability as a monastery and pilgrimage site is attributed to the fact that Gregory the Illuminator was initially imprisoned here for about 14 years by King Tiridates III of Armenia. Saint Gregory subsequently became the king's religious mentor, and they led the proselytizing activity in the country.
In the year 301, Armenia was the first country in the world to be declared a Christian nation. A chapel was initially built in 642 at the site of Khor Virap by Nerses III the Builder as a mark of veneration to Saint Gregory. Over the centuries, it was repeatedly rebuilt. In 1662, the larger chapel known as the "St. Astvatsatsin" (Holy Mother of God) was built around the ruins of the old chapel, the monastery, the refectory and the cells of the monks. It is one of the most visited pilgrimage sites in Armenia today.
Etchmiadzin and Zvartnots
The city of Echmiatsin is located in the Armavir Marz region of Armenia. The settlement has existed since ancient times, as evidenced by Stone, Bronze, and Iron Age archaeological sites located in and near the city. The oldest written information about Echmiatsin refers to the period of the Urartian King Rusa II (685-645 BC). The settlement was mentioned in the Urartian cuneiform inscription by the name of Kuarlini. Life in this Armenian settlement has continued uninterrupted. The town has been called, successively, Artimed, during the rule of Yervandunis (as evidenced by Armenian historian Movses Khorenatsi (5th century AD)), Vardgesavan, and afterwards Vagharshapat, during the age of development under the rule of King Vagharsh I Arshakuni (AD 117-140). The name Echmiatsin was used along with that of Vagharshapat after the adoption of Christianity (AD 301).
The inscribed property is divided into three separate areas: the first area includes the Mother Cathedral of Echmiatsin and St Gayane Church. The area is about 30.2 ha. 18.8 ha belongs to the Mother See of Echmiatsin (the Mother Cathedral and surrounding constructions covering 16.4 ha, the St Gayane Church and surrounding buildings covering 2.0 ha, and the cemetery of the congregation covering 0.4 ha) and 11.4 ha belongs to the community of Echmiatsin City. The second area includes St Hripsime Church and St Shoghakat Church. This area is about 25.3 ha, with 6.2 ha being the territory of St Hripsimeh Church, belonging to the Mother See. The remaining 19.2 ha belongs to the community of Echmiatsin City.
The third area consists of the archaeological site of Zvartnots, with the ruins of the temple, Catholicos Palace and other constructions, and occupies about 18.8 ha.
The religious buildings of Echmiatsin and the archaeological remains at Zvartnots bear witness to the implantation of Christianity in Armenia and to the evolution of a unique Armenian ecclesiastical architecture, which exerted a profound influence on architectural and artistic development in the region. They graphically illustrate the evolution and flowering of the Armenian central-domed cross-hall type of church.
Yerevan
Yerevan is the capital and largest city of Armenia as well as one of the world's oldest continuously inhabited cities. The city also serves as the seat of the Araratian Pontifical Diocese; the largest diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church and one of the oldest dioceses in the world. Notice that we have also spare a free day at Yerevan. Participants get to explore the town by foot, do some souvenir shopping and visit various attractions at their own pace such as the Gastropolis Food Market (Near Republic Square) and Yerevan Opera Theatre.
