Formerly known as Burma, Myanmar is a country that is increasingly known as an adventurous travel destination. Until fairly recently, Myanmar was off limits to wanderluster due to its embargo on foreign visitation. Now that it has finally opened its door, it is one country that you should visit this year.

Myanmar really does have it all: in our previous instalment (check em out here) we explored Myanmar off beaten track in Kalaw; its picturesque Inle Lake and the unique religious architectures of Bagan.
In this edition, we will venture into one of the three most revered pilgrimage site in Myanmar, the Kyaiktiyo Pagoda or most famously known as Golden Rock.
Located at the summit of Mount Kyaiktiyo, 1,100 meters above sea level, the Golden Rock is a major pilgrimage destination for the Buddhist devotees drawing hundreds of pilgrims from all over the country on daily basis. At the summit, not only will you find the Pagoda but also a large complex made-up of several temples, restaurants, guesthouses and other institutions.

Legends says that the rock is balanced on the hair of the Buddha, the reason why it seems to be able to defy gravity with almost half of its base hanging over the very edge of a hill and has survived for centuries, weathering  earthquakes and erosion.

Come and join us for this journey through the Golden Land, we will start our journey from the former capital city of Myanmar Yangon, a bustling city with the famous Shwe Da Gon Pagoda at its centre

The adventures continue with a picturesque cable car ride up the Kyaiktiyo Mountain. Spend a night on the mountain to catch glimpses of the stars and the almost mystical religious atmosphere that continue throughout the night. On descend, experience a thrilling ride down the summit on a local truck ride which guarantees an adrenaline pumping experience.
On the way back to Yangon, we will spend a night at Bago. Formerly the capital of southern Myanmar, Bago holds one of the richest archaeological sites in Myanmar, with its abundance of religious sites and remains of palaces, this town is a feast for the historical buff.
