Looking forward to be in the Himalayan peaks one of these days?!! But unsure whether you can take the altitude?
Why not test yourself at South East Asia’s tallest mountain, the “Mount Kinabalu”….with a hot spring visit.
Mount Kinabalu truly has a mysterious lure, you can ask one of our member, Sucan who has been there eight times. Standing at imposing 4095m tall on the Crocker Ranger of Sabah, East Malaysia, Aki Kinabalu as the local called it, is the most famous mountain and remains as one of the top climbing locations for hikers in this region and around the world.
Attractions around Poring Hot Spring
As part of this trip we begin with a stay at Poring Hot Springs. It is one of the “must visit” attraction that is often recommended by the locals. Located ~40km away from Kinabalu Park HQ, the hot spring is a perfect place to start your journey with de-stress session in the spring’s hot sulphuric mineral pool, which claimed to have healing properties by the local. Around the hot spring, you can also chill out at the waterfall, butterfly garden, Rafflesia flower site and canopy walk.
View from the trail near Laban Rata
Mt Kinabalu at an entry level to a hiker’s first 4000m, with an added bonus of the promise of a glorious sunrise at the summit.
Post the earth-quake in 2015, a new trail to the summit “Ranau” has been established offering much safer and picturesque route. The new breath-taking trail is roughly 1km long leading to the main checkpoint of Sayat Sayat hut, joining back at this point to the original summit trail towards the Low’s Peak at 4095m
*Climbers attempting Kinabalu do not need to have any previous experience at mountain climbing. However, a good fitness level and willpower is required.
